Most newspapers in the nation carry a column on astrology. The Wichita Eagle is no exception.

Harmless fun, you say. Probably you’ve even been asked, “What’s your sign?”

If you are a believer, just say you are a Christian and don’t practice astrology.

By giving your sign, you are setting yourself up for judgment. For example, if you were born under Gemini, sign of the twins, you may be labeled as a two-faced, untrustworthy person, whether it is true or not. This demonstrates one of the dangers of practicing astrology.

According to www.christianteens.about.com, “Astrology began as a form of fortune telling, which the Bible considers an occult, and at times, a useless practice. Astrology is based upon the use of stars and planets to ‘read into’ a person’s past, present, and future.”

Biblically, God considers the practice of astrology a sin.

Genesis 1:14 states that ‘lights’ were created to divide the day from the night, that they were to be for signs, seasons, days, and years. Nowhere does it say the heavenly bodies were created for worship or predicting man’s future. Astrology is forbidden as a form of divination, an observer of times. (Deuteronomy 18:10-14)

The prophet Daniel said “there is a God in heaven who revealeth secrets”. (Daniel 2:22, 27-28 KJV) He made it clear that only God can predict the future.

Daniel, because he sought God and His Truth, put the royal astrologers of the Babylonian court to shame when King Nebuchadnezzar sought interpretation of his dream. The astrologers were helpless before him when seeking the stars for help. (Daniel 1:20; 2:1-49)

Throughout history, Israel fell to this sin: God forbade His people to worship or serve the ‘host of heaven’. Still, they disobeyed, and brought God’s judgment. (Deuteronomy 4:19; 2 Kings 17:16) We are no different. If we involve ourselves in something God forbids, then we, too, will face His judgment.

God is a jealous God, and does not want anyone seeking His creation for answers. He wants us to seek Him instead. (Exodus 20:2-3)

In fact, Isaiah 47:13-14 says that astrologers will be burned as stubble because of their sin.

The heavens were created as a display of God’s glory and handiwork. We are not to worship ‘lights’ or believe what others predict, based upon the stars. Instead, admire them in wonder, enjoying their beauty.

Don’t waste your time on astrologers and false predictions.

“And there shall be SIGNS in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the Earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the Earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” (Luke 21:25-27 KJV)
